Using PIA with an Encrypted Home Folder

Written by Ben Cunningham · on August 29, 2017

I recently started using the Private Internet Access VPN on Ubuntu. I followed the instructions on the PIA site, but noticed all of my connection attempts were timing out. Eventually, I ran across this great 30 second read from Eric von Foerster and realized the issue had to do with my home folder being encrypted.

If you’re struggling with the same thing, here’s his quick solution: move .pia_manager somewhere unencrypted and create a symlink to it in your home folder.
