About me

Hey! I’m Ben Cunningham. I live in New York, NY and I’m a data scientist. Here are some things I like: R and SQL. Open source software. Machine learning for humans. Reproducible analysis. College football. Radio. Speed walking. Learning something new every day.

I graduated from the University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie College of Business in May 2016 where I majored in Business Analytics & Information Systems and minored in Computer Science. I studied applications of machine learning, optimization, and statistics in finance and marketing spaces. Since then, I’ve worked on finance and consulting teams at Liquidnet, KRUI, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Now, my background in quantitative methods and client services provides the foundation for my work helping subject-matter experts answer interesting questions using data. I love analysis driven programming, code and math puzzles, and occasionally even do analytics and database query competitions. Over the past few years, I’ve also used my blog to write about everyday data.

This website is powered by Jekyll and R Markdown and hosted on GitHub. In the spirit of my favorite eccentric academic home pages from college, I also archive a travel journal, family recipes, and some other fun links here.
